How to Copy Streamed Flash Videos from Temp folder?

Note: Two things are important here.

1. Firstly, the browser tab having the streamed video must remain open otherwise the browser will automatically delete the cached video.

2. Use this method responsibly. Do not copy copyrighted content.

Method:

The buffered videos are cached in the following location. Please make sure you have a flaxxxx.tmp file before proceeding.

C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Temp

Replace with your windows account user name.

If the above location isn't visible, just go to My Computer - Folder Option - View and Check Show hidden files and folders.

While the tab is open, you wont be able to copy the file. A ‘file in Use’ error will be returned if you attempt to copy:

To be able to copy the files you need a small software called hobocopy (Download)

Follow these steps once you’ve downloaded hobo copy:

1. Extract the file Hobocopy.exe in your C:\ drive (or any other location)

2. Open the administrative command prompt ( type cmd, right click and select run as administrator) and go to drive C:\ and issue the following command (Assuming that you have placed hobocopy.exe in drive C:\

hobocopy C:\users\user name\AppData\Local\Temp e:\videos fla7386.tmp

Note: There is a space between Temp and e:\videos and fla7386.tmp

Here,

--replace this with your windows administrator user name.
e:\videos -- is the location where I want to copy the file.
fla7386.tmp -- is the name of the file to be copied.

Now, wait for the file copy process to complete.

Once the file is copied, change the extension of the file from .tmp to .flv so that it can be played on your FLV supporting media player.
